Tenwek DAY 2!

Today was our first full day at Tenwek, and it was action-packed! After a breakfast of eggs and toast, we met up with the Manys for rounds. Some of us went to round with the surgery team, some went with Dr. Brady, and some went with the pediatrics team. Before rounds, all the surgeons met and did a devotion from Isaiah and then prayed.

We all got to be up close and listen to the presenting doctor when discussing a case. After rounds, Molly, Olivia and Melissa went to observe brain surgery! The doctor prayed with his staff before beginning, and we were able to watch him dissect and remove the tumor, open the skull, and take a skin graft from her thigh to replace the protective covering of the brain. We got to see the brain itself!

Some of the girls suited up to go into surgery and observe Dr. Brady and others as various surgeries were completed. They watched things from a C-section to a Brain tumor removal and several things in between.

Like father like son in the operating room. It was incredible to watch Dr. Brady show the kids what he does back home and how he uses his gifts to help others. The kids really enjoyed watching and learning new things as the surgeries progressed.
Lex mostly stuck with Angela throughout the day hopping from room to room doing various things. Checking in on Pediatric rounds, OB rounds, and General surgery rounds, as well as visiting the NICU a few times to check on the little ones. And as a huge surprise to us all, she didn't faint and even stepped into the operating room to check out what Dr. Brady does for a living!
 Jackson Scott, aka Dr. McDreamy.
Davis found himself a little Chameleon buddy along the way! (and then proceeded to leave it in the girls apartments)
These three were wiped from the day when they got in the car to head to a nearby town (a little over an hours drive) to help deliver a wheel chair to a young girl in need (peep the wheel chair stuffed in the back next to Davis).

After delivering, and custom sizing the wheel chair, to fit the little girl the kids continued to play with the villagers. They kept coming from all directions to dance, sing, and play games with us. They played duck duck goose and had a great time playing with Liv's hair (which was completely knotted afterwards).

Here is the little girl and her wheel chair. The village had previously raised funds to help her receive help, so when this chair was given to her, the village was overjoyed at the fact that those funds could go to benefit more in need.
After games and fun in the village, the family of the girl invited us into the house to have tea and a meal with them. They would not stop serving us more even when we were so full. I hate to say it, but "Kenyan Hospitality" might be better than our "Southern Hospitality".
 DINNER TIME!!!
We headed to the Manny's to make pizza and enjoy some fellowship in their home. We enjoyed the food, conversations, and spiritual debrief of the day. Kids are all exhausted and ready for some sleep!!! (but first some card games & yoga)

Overall today was incredible. From the patients, to the doctors, everyone was so inviting and friendly to welcome us into their home country. We all learned a lot today and cannot wait to see what else is in store for us in the upcoming days.
Love,
Lexi
