We first went to a school/orphanage (don’t have permission to name it) where we put on the VBS for about 100 kids ranging from the fourth to eighth grade. We sang three songs and put on two skits. After this Robyn asked the kids to sing for us. They saying three or four songs all in Swahili. So cool!
Then we went to the Kenyan mall and ate lunch. Pretty Americanized; I got a bacon cheeseburger. We then went to this place called Heshima. Heshima means dignity in Swahili. This was a village where they took in children with disabilities and gave them and education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, emotional support. At they also hire the mother of the child with disabilities to work within the campus primarily making jewelry. We learned that children with disabilities in Kenya are considered a curse and are practically considered worthless in society. Well this is a sad truth made the mission of Heshima extremely powerful. We toured around the campus getting to see the facility as well as some of the kids. At the end we had the opportunity to shop in the “Dignified Designs” for jewelry and other handicrafts that these women made. Also Jackson and I had the chance to help a woman walk her jugs of water that she collected from Heshima back to her home. Wow we got some weird look it was definitely a worthwhile experience.
We returned to our hotel, order KFC, played patriotic trivia games, and a loser got silly stringed! Our teams were "Washington Winners" and "We the People" in honor of the Fourth of July.
Wonderful day. Everybody is exhausted. Good night signing off is Davis Brady thank you!
